With the surge in bigotry and xenophobic activity, the grassroots organizations in the AMENA community are stretched to their courageous limits. The nonprofits are the front line, and the AMENA Civil Rights Center will support them with the resources to help form and properly operate tax-exempt entities.
This Unit will initially rely on the time and talent commitments of Partner Firms to bring in practitioners with Tax and Nonprofit specialties to provide affordable assistance with corporate, tax and compliance matters. This Unit will also coordinate with the Educational Programs department of AMENA Civil Rights Center to provide seminars and training on nonprofit management issues, including financial recordkeeping and transparency, effective fundraising, and social media and messaging management.
The AMENA Civil Rights Center will expand this Unit as funded with additional attorney staff and provide clinical or intern positions for law students through strategic partnerships, e.g., with the Business and Community Law Clinic at Wayne State University Law School.
